When this single-mom first called Laurel Design Collective, she was not sure exactly what she wanted to do. The only request was to make the relatively bland looking craftsman home in Laurelhurst reflect more of her personality. After diving into her personal style, we came up with the concept for a globally-inspired, colorful, eclectic craftsman home.
We reworked the living room, upping the scale of her furniture to better fit the large room while still utilizing many of her existing pieces. Working with the architecture, we added built-ins to the Dining Room for additional storage. We then designed more storage in the form of lockers in the new Reading Room by the main entry. We wallpapered spaces to inject bursts of bold color. Reupholstered antique furniture pieces that had belonged to the client’s mother gave a sense of spirit and tradition. While the house was designed to the client’s style, we constantly reflected on how she and her children would use the space. We utilized durable materials and designed custom, life-proof furniture that would hold up to elementary school kid sleepovers and high schooler antics. Laurel Design Collected sourced furniture and accessories from places like India, and Cameroon, and other countries around the world to create a global, eclectic space. The emphasis on color and fun made the home incredibly unique, bold, and beautiful, just like the client herself.
