Founded by Laurel Oberst in 2021, Laurel Design Collective is a full service interior design studio working on projects across the United States. We conceive timeless designs that embody the human spirit and how we experience the built world. With an emphasis on respect for historic architecture and a playfulness that leans modern, we take on projects of any style. Our approach is detailed, distinctive, and holistic. We understand that every individual and business has unique needs and design preferences, which means we tackle every project with a vision that is crafted specifically for you.
Our team works on a design through the entire process: from initial concept, establishing an overall aesthetic direction, through design development, furniture & accessories, and construction administration. We’re a valuable partner for our clients throughout the project, ensuring the design is carried out as intended and troubleshooting any issue that may arise.
We value innovative, refined, high quality design that stands the test of time. We collaborate with a large network of professionals from artisan craftspeople and artists to architects, engineers, and builders, ensuring an eye for detail and exquisite craftsmanship in our luxury interiors. Laurel Design Collective produces all the construction documents necessary for residential renovations and works tandem with a full architecture team on new-construction and larger commercial projects.

Laurel started creating blueprints at age five with blue crayons and a sketchbook. Design is in her bones. Laurel has worked in studios in Berlin, Germany, Oakland, CA, and Portland, OR. She has worked on everything from the homes of NBA players to the private offices of billionaires to Four Seasons Hotels. Laurel’s design experiences runs the gamut: residences, hotels, multi-family housing, senior living, education, offices, restaurants, and affordable housing are all in her portfolio. She has a deep appreciation for the details and functional aspects of design. She enjoys working with her clients on the minutia to ensure their every need and expectation is exceeded.
Laurel graduated with honors from Tufts University in Somerville, MA with dual degrees in Architectural Studies and German Cultural Studies as well as a minor in Studio Art. After it snowed in May one year, she decided to head back to the West Coast. After bouncing around, she landed in Portland, Oregon in 2016. In her free time, Laurel cares for her ever-growing menagerie of pets and foster animals. Always one to get out into nature, Laurel volunteers time each summer in the Sierra Mountains of California teaching young women outdoor and backpacking skills. She is the President of the Tufts Alumni Association in Oregon.

Oregon
Our interior design studio is located in Portland, Oregon and we regularly work in the Greater Portland Area, Eugene, Salem, and Bend. We take projects from the Oregon coast to the desert and everywhere in between.
California
Our founder, Laurel Oberst, was raised in Lafayette, California, lived in Berkeley, and worked in Oakland. Nearly half of our projects are based in the San Francisco Bay Area and Greater Los Angeles. We enjoy catching some sun while we’re on site at our California projects!
Washington
With Vancouver, Washington just a stone’s throw away from our studio, our Washington clients are often just as close as our Oregon clients. We frequently work in both the Vancouver and Seattle areas, as well as everywhere in between.
